So a lot of people has been asking me where can they find informations about KDE 4, which is going to be released in October of this year, since they only find around the net various mock-ups of any kind. Well, I really think it easy to google for this kind of information but since some of my friends asked I’ll put online this little “Finding KDE4 infos tips”.
First, let’s learn something about the KDE4 Alpha 1 which was already released and can be tested by me, you and anyone already. Remember it is a very early version and it has not the features that the final version will have. Just think that the kicker (The KDE Bar) is still there from KDE 3 and has not yet been modyfied but it will!!! Decorations of any kind are not there yet, this packages are for testing purposes and just able to show off the new technologies behind KDE4, so, yet no new eyecandy feature has been fully implemented. Just to say, the compositor abilityes of KWin are unabled by default when you log into the KDE4 Alpha release 1.

Remember that even if this is an Alpha release, you can at least enjoy the new Oxygen icon set and the new programs launcher (Alt+F2) for some eyecandy…. but now let’s find togeter some incredible features of KDE4 in youtube.
Search terms that you should use are:
- Plasma KDE
- Kwin KDE
- Icon KDE or Oxigen KDE
- Plasmoid KDE
And that’s all. Remember that KWin is KDE’s window manager and now it has a lot of effects similar to Beryl. Plasma is KDE’s Desktop which can run Plasmoids that are similar to Screenlets, Widgets etc. The Icons are important for 2 reasons: they will have an incredible interaction with the user since some options will be available on the Icon’s corners.
