OpenGEU Luna Nuova
OpenGEU Luna Nova has finally been released after some days of waiting. We had to test fbpanel to release the new version of our distro, that’s why there has been some delay but it will be worth the wait, be sure of this 🙂
So xfce4panel is way and fbpanel is in. This is a lighter panel, it is less buggy with OpenGEU and it fixes the only bug left we knew about. If you still prefer Xfce4panel, you can still install it with our repos, just
sudo apt-get install opengeu-xfce4-panel
And set it to autostart with your session instead of fbpanel. You can set it using the E menù –> Configuration –> Configuration Panel –> stratup applications. Remember to remove from the list fbpanel and place opengeu-xfce4-panel there instead: find it in the System category.
OpenGEU is a transitional upgrade, between Geubuntu Luna Nuova and OpenGEU Luna Crescente, the upcoming release based on Ubuntu Hardy Heron. You’ll have an alpha iso soon to play with, don’t worry. For now OpenGEU Luna Nuova will be available as a torrent download only, please seed it (keep your torrent application opened after downloading OpenGEU and leave the iso where it is 😉 ).
The E17 world has a number of new and exiting features coming up and we’ll be sure to provide everything good to you with our repos. So stay tuned since OpenGEU Luna Crescente will be a very nice release too 🙂

Be sure to download OpenGEU and copy it to your friends. If you already installed Geubuntu, instead, just upgrade to OpenGEU with a simple:
sudo apt-get install opengeu-desktop
and the installation will be automatic. If you don’t have the OpenGEU repos and want to install it from packages, please visit our WIKI.
About WIKI and forums, the addresses had to change, visit the pages of this website and bookmark the new links please. Very simply, every geubuntu name changed to opengeu. Not a big deal I guess.
Well, I tried to “apt-get install opengeu-desktop”, but keep getting “opengeu-desktop package not found”. Did the repos names change recently?
Not at all. Try to see if you have the right repos here:
sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list
Find the repos in the wiki, this page:
http://geubuntu.wikispaces.com/Installing+Geubuntu+7.10+from+packages
remember that you have to use the command you wrote above after updating.
sudo apt-get install opengeu-desktop
I’m a big fan of any E17 distro .. but I’m struggling at the moment to get sound output from OpenGEU (I had the same problem with GEUbuntu too by the way!)
How do you change sound options in E17? .. there must be away but I can’t find it!!
Meanwhile many thanks for your efforts .. I will be seeding this as much as I can .. and thanks for any tips about the sound configurations !!
Hy, Pickey, not sure what your problem is. Could you please post your problem explaining better what you need on the official OpenGEU Forum? I didn’t understand if you just need to set up the volume or if sound doesn’t work at all. In the latter case that must be an Ubuntu based problem. Try out the normal Live of Ubuntu and you’ll see it won’t work either. In that case, you’d better post to the Ubuntu forums too 🙁
Sorry, I found it: my fault, I slammed a fresh sources.list over the modified, that did not contain the geubuntu lines.

Really wanted to try openGEU, but all the torrents are down and when I try to install it on my existing *buntu boxes, I can’t install because (I suspect) the E17 repository is returning “permanently moved” when I reload after adding the repos. From where I sit it looks like openGEU anf Geubuntu are just not available.
Hi, I’m trying to install Opengeu from the packages. I’ve added the repos as per the wiki but everytime I do ‘sudo apt-get update’ I get the following message:
Failed to fetch http://e17.dunnewind.net/ubuntu/dist…86/Packages.gz 301 Moved Permanently
Then I can’t install the opengeu-desktop package as it depends on some e17 packages which apt won’t install.
Are the repos being worked on or somthing?
UPDATE: Got the torrent working, and the livecd looks good. Is there any way to add the geu-desktop to my existing *buntu boxes from the cd?
@Jim: the tracker’s statistics are absolutely untrue. There are plenty of seeders. I directed the link to the torrent file directly so that there’s no confusion anymore. Please remember to only download OpenGEU from the official links!! There’s no way to use the CD to install OpenGEU from apckages, sorry, You should follow the wiki on how to install Geubuntu Luna Nuova and then install opengeu-desktop instead of geubuntu-desktop… but the dunnewind repos are down at the moment.
@Nobby: it’s because the dunnewind repos are being mantained, please be patient. And install opengeu-desktop, not geubuntu-desktop as said in the wiki. Gotta update it. If someone helped me much more :-
Just tried installing from the packages and I get this error in Synaptic:

Depends: enlightenment-theme-night-bling but it is not installable
I have all the repos in my sources.list and night-bling is not listed.
Correction to the above. It can be found here:

Adding that to the repo sources solves it.

Installed this on the weekend – all the stable goodness of gutsy with the beauty or DR17 = One of the best distros out there and one very happy end user!

well, I just tried to mark the geubuntu-desktop (I’m on feisty so I can’t try opengeu just yet) and I get the theme error also.

That theme’s no longer on e17-stuff.org either.
Ah, OK, interesting. Sorry, no one installs Geubuntu Prima Luna anymore so no one told me about this repos problem. I’ll try and fix it, do’t worry..
Great OS! Thanx also for opengeeeu! I love it on my asus 701. The only small problem is that I can’t get my wifi going, even after the madwifi apt install. Any suggestions?
