When drawing logos, or even various other types of drawings, you wanna go for vector graphics. Not everyone, however, is good at using it, since vector softwares such as Inkscape or Illustrator are not as user-friendly as Photoshop and you cannot draw as freely as you may like to. It may also happen that you have a logo or a pretty simple image in paper or raster format and want to convert it into vector format so that you can use it at higher resolutions. Many vector drawing softwares like Inkscape or Illustrator offer the possibility to make such a conversion. But, in my opinion, you’d better rely on Vector Magic for incredible results in a few steps! You can get it here.
Vector Magic is a product that comes in two editions, one in the form of a Web App and one in the form of a real desktop application. Vector Magic is no drawing tool: its only purpose is that of converting rasters to vectors. That’s why, IMHO, it’s a better choice.
Vector Magic Web App
In the WebApp version we can upload an image online, configure conversion parameters and preview the result without even having to sign up. However, we will not be able to download the vector image on our HD. By signing up, instead, we will be entitled to two free tokens. Converting a vector image and downloading it costs a coin.
Keep in mind that the uploaded image can be re-converted in a thousand different ways, changing the parameters even on different days and downloaded in all sort of extensions. The result will remain online for 16 days, unless we decide to delete it first. By paying a subscription of $ 7.95 a month, we will be able to upload, convert, and download all the images we want.
Vector Magic Desktop
The Vector Magic Desktop version includes all the features of the online one and much more (see comparative table on this page). There are so many export formats and you can configure every aspect of the conversion: you can even edit the nodes recognized and generated by the program! And you can delete the background color, remove any line, error or color you do not want in your picture and so on. The cost of the Desktop version is $ 295 but if you are a professional, I assure you that it’s worth it: Conversion results with Vector Magic are really superb and the software is super easy to use!
We can opt for a fully automated conversion with just one click, or we can choose between a basic and advanced mode to control conversion parameters. Personally, I use Vector Magic to convert logos from ink to vector but also to transform handrawn comic strips produced by me or my colleague to vector format. The result is always impeccable, with the right configuration. I’ve tried many applications but, as you can see from the demonstration screenshots presented here, it’s hard to find a better conversion software than this. Try the trial to believe!
